HBO max is a video-sharing and social media platform owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

HBO on Broadband

AOL Time Warner released HBO on Broadband in January 2008 exclusively for Time Warner Cable customers in Green Bay and Milwaukee, Wisconsin who subscribed to both HBO and the Roadrunner internet service.

HBO Go

HBO on Broadband was expanded to a worldwide market through HBO Go on February 18, 2010.

It was discontinued in the United States of America on July 31, 2020 on June 29, 2021 in Latin America and the Caribbean, on March 8, 2022 in Central and Eastern Europe, and on November 19, 2024 in Asia.

HBO Now

Another service, HBO Now, was released on October 15, 2014.

Unlike HBO Go, it did not require an HBO cable television subscription, targeted people who had moved on from cable.

HBO

HBO Now was rebranded simply as HBO in July 2020. It shut down on December 17, 2020.

HBO max

HBO max was launched on May 27, 2020.

Max

HBO max was shortened to max in the United States on May 22, 2023 and in Latin America and the Caribbean on February 27, 2024.

HBO max

HBO max once again became the name of the service on July 9, 2025.
