Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (龍が如く8, Ryū ga Gotoku 8), is the eighth main game in the Like a Dragon series. It was released on PS4, PS5, Windows, Xbox One, and Series X/S on January 26, 2024.
Plot
In the late 1970s, Jo Sawashiro, the then-captain of the Arakawa Family branch of the Tojo Clan, had planned to kill the wife of his patriarch, Masumi Arakawa, to protect his secret. On January 1, 1977, Sawashiro allowed Arakawa to retrieve the former's son and let his boss believe the boy was the latter's child.
Sawashiro tracked her down to Honolulu, Hawaii. However, she let him know that she had no intention of returning to Japan, so he told Arakawa that she died.
In 2024, because Arakawa is no longer alive and the Tojo Clan has disbanded, Jo Sawashiro tells Arakawa's biological son, Ichiban Kasuga, that his mother is still alive. He gives Kasuga a plane ticket to Honolulu, which the latter takes so that he can deliver his father's ashes to his mother.
Kasuga gets in trouble as soon as he arrives in Hawaii. First, he gets scammed by a corrupt taxi driver named Eric Tomizawa and then he gets drugged by his mother Akane's maid Chitose Fujinomiya.
Ichiban wakes up naked on the beach in Honolulu and is arrested by the police for indecent exposure. Fujinomiya had stolen Kasuga's passport and identification, so a corrupt police officer intends to falsely claim that Kasuga had committed the crimes in several cold cases.
Kasuga manages to escape from the police station and successfully loses the police while being chased by ducking into a construction site. While there, he meets Kazuma Kiryu who had moved to Hawaii after working for the Daidoji Faction.
Kiryu uses the skills he had learned from the faction to pick up Kasuga's handcuffs and take him away from the crime scene in a Daidoji faction vehicle.
