Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, originally released as Raiders of the Lost Ark, was the first film in the Indiana Jones series.
It received a wide release on June 12, 1981. Raiders of the Lost Ark was produced by Lucasfilm and was distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Plot
In 1936, Nazis wanted to acquire the fabled Ark of the Covenant, which held the stone tablets that contained the Ten Commandments. They believed that the relic had supernatural powers that would allow Adolf Hitler to spread the Third Reich throughout the world.
In this case, the rumors were true, so an archeologist named Henry Jones, Jr. dons a leather jacket, pistol, and whip to stop the Nazis as Indiana Jones.
Comic book adaptation
A comic book adaptation of Raiders of the Lost Ark was written by Walter Simonson with art by John Buscema. It was published by Marvel Comics in three parts from June to August 1981.
The story follows that of the film. However, it does differ from the film in minor ways with some differing dialog, locations, and character appearances.
The comic book adaptation was reprinted in "Indiana Jones Omnibus: The Further Adventures Volume 1" by Dark Horse Comics on January 21, 2009.
