Super Famicom Box was a pay-to-play platform by Nintendo that was based on the Super Famicom.
Release
The Super Famicom Box coin-op system was manufactured from 1992 to 1994 for release in hotels only in Japan.
It was preceded by the Nintendo Super System, which was released in 1991 and 1992. The Nintendo Super System also was based on Super Nintendo Entertainment System hardware, but it was intended for arcades.
ROM cartridge types
The ROM cartridges were larger than regular Super Famicom cartridges. There were four cartridges in total.
One was a red-labeled regular cartridge, the PSS-61, that contained the BIOS that was required for the system to function.'
The other three were yellow-labeled optional cartridges which did not contain a BIOS.
