As the TRS-80 was the best selling computer in the United States in 1977 and 1978, Tandy used the TRS-80 label for incompatible computers including the TRS-80 Model II in 1979, the TRS-80 Color Computer in 1980, the TRS-80 model II-compatible TRS-80 Model 12 and TRS-80 Model 16 in 1982, and the TRS-80 Model II-compatible TRS-80 Model 16B and the TRS-80 Color Computer-compatible TRS-80 Color Computer 2 in 1983.
